Vlado Karamazov will take on the role of Shalimov in Maxim Gorky’s play “Summerfolk”, which Ivan Panteleev will direct in the National Theatre. The rehearsals have started a few days ago and the star cast of the newest theatre project on our top stage are Julian Vergov, Teodora Duhovnikova, Hristo Petkov, Ivan Yurukov, Darin Angelov, Dejan Angelov, Rashko Mladenov, Nikolay Urumov, Radena Valkanova, Alexandra Vasileva and Stefania Koleva. Stage design and costumes are entrusted to Milena Panteleeva, and music – to Rashko Mladenov. The production will mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Maxim Gorky. Premiere dates are March 24th and 25th on the Main Stage of the National Theatre.
Maxim Gorky finished “Summerfolk” in 1904, and a year later the work was published in Saint Petersburg. Full of characters who “…may have come out of a Chekhov world”, the play shows the Russian bourgeoisie and the changes occurring among it.
Ivan Panteleev is one of the most successful Bulgarian directors. He has graduated Theatre Directing at the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts. He has realized projects in Sofia, Riga, Avignon, Stuttgart, Zurich, Lucerne and others. In Germany he was director in two of Berlin’s most legendary theatrical spaces – Deutsches Theatre and Volksbühne. In 2016 his production “Waiting for Godot” with the participation of Samuel Finzi was presented to the Bulgarian audience as part of the “World Theatre in Sofia” platform.
